Hymns of the Season, Volume 2

by Pastor Frank

St. Paul's Music Conservatory is pleased to announce that volume 2 of its piano book series is now available. With musical arrangements by Dr. Elizabeth Grimpo, images by Edward Riojas, and text by Sharon Sherrill, this book is a continuation of the fine work of these same contributors in volume 1. Like the first volume, the book follows a graded approach, meaning that each hymn is set to four separate levels, with a student's musical development in mind. Hymns included are the following: "Jesus, Priceless Treasure,” “O Bride of Christ, Rejoice,” “Let Us All with Gladsome Voice,” “O Morning Star, How Fair and Bright,” “God’s Own Child, I Gladly Say It,” “Awake, My Heart, with Gladness,” “O Holy Spirit, Grant Us Grace,” “What Is the World to Me,” and “O Lord, How Shall I Meet You.”

See what others are saying about this book and this series:

"Little pianists often grow up to a lifetime of playing in church. What better way to nurture future organists and pianists than this graded curriculum, centered around the hymns we sing each week! This collection will implant a deep and abiding love of these sacred melodies and instill confidence in young players that will last them a lifetime. Soli Deo Gloria!"

"My, what a book for young musicians!  These selections are good musical choices, besides being evangelical through and through. The variety of arrangements means that at all levels they can accompany, sing, lead singing, and enjoy our hymns, while gaining piano skills and sharing the faith with music.  I wish this resource had come along sooner!"
-Rev. Robert E. Voelker

"Volume two is a solid continuation of this wonderful series. The stunning artwork and well-chosen Bible verses and commentary will serve well to help students grow in their understanding of the faith, and the piano pieces will allow them to practice their piano skills while expanding their hymn repertoire. The pieces would be easily incorporated into the Divine Service, allowing even the youngest musicians to share their God-given gifts with the congregation. Since each hymn is presented at four different levels, students can utilize this book for a long time which is tremendously helpful since students often level up before playing every piece in a supplemental book such as this."

"'Jesus, Priceless Treasure'" is skillfully arranged, written, and illustrated. It's simply beautiful. I find that the thoughtfully interwoven artwork, quotes, and explanations are an inspiration for the children trying out the hymns and also a joy for me as I work with them. It's a user-friendly tool for parents, teachers, pastors, and church musicians as they teach the rich hymnody of the historic church and pass the faith to the next generation. Best of all, the entirety of the book points to our greatest Treasure, Jesus Christ. Now that I have this resource, I can't imagine teaching without it!"
